Logging in, Composing, Replying and Forwarding Emails to Google Mail
The following tutorial will teach you do basic tasks in Google Mail such as logging in, composing, replying and forwarding emails.
A. Logging in to Google Mail
1. Open your browser and go to http://mail.google.com/a/cristoreybalt.org.
2. On the log in page, enter the username and password that have been provided to you by your
Administrator.
3. Checking the box next to Remember me on this computer will save you from re-entering your
username and password each time you visit your Gmail login page.
NOTE: It is highly encouraged that you log out of Gmail at the end of each session to protect the security of your email
information. To end your Gmail session, just click Sign out at the top of any Gmail page
B. Composing an email
1. Directly above the link to your Inbox, click "COMPOSE MAIL."
2. Your cursor will automatically be placed in the To: box. Begin typing the name of your recipient
and the Auto-fill mechanism will provide a drop-down list of matching contacts from your
Address Book. Use the up and down arrows on your keyboard and select the recipient from the
list of contacts. Alternatively, you may type in the email address of the person you wish to send
an email, or click the To: link and select recipients from the Contact-picker which opens in a new
window.
3. If you want to Cc or Bcc someone on this email, click the "ADD CC" or "ADD BCC" link. Begin typing
the recipient's name, or use the Contact-picker.
4. Press the TAB button on your keyboard to move to the Subject: box and enter the subject of
your email.
5. If you wish to attach one or more files to your message, click "ATTACH A FILE", locate the file you
wish to attach, then click "SELECT." Once the file is uploaded, it will display a checked box next to
the filename link. (To remove a file that is attached to this email, simply un-check the box next
to the file name you wish to remove.)
6. Press the TAB button on your keyboard to move to the email box, then type the contents of your
email. If you wish to finish typing the contents of the email at a later time, click "SAVE NOW" and
your message will be saved in Drafts
7. Click "SEND."
NOTE: Gmail has a number of features, including built-in spell-check. It will automatically underline in red,
words that are not in the dictionary. To add formatting to your email, highlight the text and use the
buttons (located above the email box) to add formatting
C. Replying and forwarding an email
There are a number of ways to reply to an email message in Google Mail:
1. there's the Reply link in the upper right corner of an email
message. Clicking the "REPLY" link will bring up a Compose window to
the original sender.
2. If you wanted to reply to all, you can pull down the Reply drop-down
and select "REPLY TO ALL." Or you can use the links at the bottom of the
message.
3. When replying to a message in a conversation thread, it's important
to recognize which message you are replying to. After you send the
message reply, you'll see your message in the conversation thread.
4. Forwarding an email message is just as easy. Click the "FORWARD" link at the bottom of the message
and a Compose window will appear. Begin typing the name of your recipient and send the email. Your
forwarded message will now be part of the conversation thread.
